House - sleeps 6 in 2 double bedrooms, 1 bunk bed room, sofa bed in lounge for alternative sleeping. Maps, walking, guide books and a lot of tourist infomation available for use at the house. T.v/DvD/CD player and wide selection of discs (NO SKY), selection of board games. Fully equipped kitchen, kettle, toaster, microwave, hob ,oven, fridge etc. Large lounge diner. Newly fitted bathroom with shower over bath, toilet and basin. Small garden with BBQ . Small local pub/ mountain hut 1 minute walk away, very friendly helpful owners can provide you with a coffee/beer etc and a chat with advice on local walks, history etc. Trout farm/ bar restaurant 5 minutes drive down the hill serving great value and delicious food (the speciality of fresh grilled trout)and locally made wine. Small supermarket, pizzeria, cafe/bar and post office 8 minutes down in podbrdo as is a train station where a car train can whisk you through the mountain in 10 minutes to Bohinj- a very well established mountain/ lake resort with many shopping, eating/ drinking and leisure facilities and access for many mountain activities, the all year round vogel cable car. Or on to most na soci lake resort. Where you can then head up river to take in the blue/ green river Soca , many waterfalls, the military history and renowned museum and quality restaurants at kobarid, or down to the wine regions and the Italian border and coast. Both Bohinj and Most na Soci can also be driven to in approx 30 minutes very scenic mountain/valley drive.

Plenty to see and do whatever the season. Hiking and biking trails from the door step, ranging from high mountain multiday hut to hut walks to short 1/2 day or day walks through the valleys/meadows or rural villages. The house is on the crossroads of the via alpina and several other long distance european walking paths. Lots of rock climbing crags about. Instruction, guiding and equipment hire available in the tourist agencies in resorts. A wide range of Water sports approx 40 minute stunning drive away either white water sports (rafting, Canyoning, Hydrospeeding-body surfing down the rapids, kayaking) on the blue green river Soca or canoeing, swimming, windsurfing on the lake at Bohinj/Bled. Equipment rental and instruction or guides available. For the less energetic, you can visit the capital Ljubljana or other picturesque and historic towns such as Skofja Loka. Visit the UNESCO listed Postjona cave systems tourist attraction. Gentle lake strolls on the flat on around lake Bled and Bohinj. Relax in variety of very good quality and value thermal spas. Have a treatment or just a swim indoor and outdoor facilities available. Visit a working vineyard and do some wine tasteing. Just wine and dine all week, Visit the famous Lipica horses. GETTING THERE House is under 1 hours drive from the capital Ljubljana, Ljubljana airport served by easyjet. Approx 1 hr 50 minutes very scenic drive from either Trieste (Italy), Maribor (Slovenia), Klagenfurt (Austria) served by ryanair from Stanstead. Easy access into Italy, Croatia, Austria for day trips should you want to (2hrs 40 mins to Venice, Maximum 2 hours to each border). My friendly South African neighbour to let you in, ensure the house is warm and clean for your arrival. Car hire is highly reccomended due to the rural nature of the chalet to make the most of your visit. Available at all the above mentioned airports, good reliable service recieved so far. I recommend for most competitive rates to book in advance through autoeurope.com or arguscarrentals (1 week small economy car approx 100GBP) Self drive is possible from England either by ferry or eurotunnel to Calais (for best value we use speedferries to Boulogne- journey time from french port to house approx 17 hours) It is possible with one overnight stop enroute (often in Germany) or for a more relaxed trip 2 nights stop. Fastest route with least motorway tolls is up through Belgium-Germany-Austria-Slovenia. Remember a "vignette" (toll ticket) needs to be purchased to travel on austrian motorways and a fee is payable to come through the Karavanken tunnel, the most direct route from Austria avoiding the mountain roads into Slovenia.
